Production Image Downloader

Storefront's Production Image Downloader (PID) is a lab utility program that automatically downloads and processes orders from Storefront's Distributed Fulfillment Engine(DFE).  PID operates in conjunction with Production Image Publisher to provide a managed scalable lab process for the handling of networked digital production orders.

Production Image Downloader's primary function is to automatically download customer files into the photo lab as required to process new orders, or as manually requested by the operator.  PID may be configured to download orders from local in-store DFE order servers or remote centralized DFE servers.  PID downloads and processes photo orders that are placed through any of Storefront's supported sales channels including the Photo Kiosk, Retailer's Web Site, Point Of Sale, XP Print Services Wizard, and the Storefront CD Viewer.

In addition to downloading, PID automatically crops, layers and processes all images as the customer specified using one of the ordering interfaces. This potentially includes PhotoCart, PhotoKiosk, POS, CD Viewer, XP Print Wizard or a SOAP/XML integrated web application.  PID respects and ensures production resolution and aspect ratio requirements while automatically creating the thumbnails and resized images required for webpages, invoices, documents, work orders, CDs, VCDs and DVDs.  It integrates through a network "hot-folder" with PIP stations to automatically prepare and queue CD and DVD burning orders.

PID is designed to operate at all times unattended in the background.  It provides a status panel that allows operators to monitor orders, downloads and operation.
